You've hired the agencies. Spending the money. Implementing AI. But you're getting different advice from everyone. And your results are a reflection of that.
You've hired an SEO agency, a paid ads agency, and some other specialist agency. Each one tells you their thing is the priority.
You follow the advice of these experts. The strategy is designed for a business three times your size and doesn't get a result.
You're paying a lot for AI tools: You're not sure which ones you actually need, it's time consuming to learn, and not getting a result.
You've started using AI for content. Despite comprehensive prompting, it still doesn't sound like you, and it isn't getting a result.
You're know something's wrong but you don't have enough deep knowledge about marketing to know exactly what will get a result.

3 Reasons Your Marketing Isn't Increasing Revenue ... Profitably
You've heard the saying that if all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail. I see this happen a lot.
The ads agency convinced it's ads. The AI vendor convinced it's automation. Every one of them leads with their solution — before understanding your business, your buyer, or what you actually need right now.
Nobody in that room is asking what the right next move actually is — for your business, at your stage, right now.
The answer?
Strategy before tactics and a helicopter view from a seasoned expert.
Know your numbers. Clarify the strategy. Then - identify and deploy tactically.
Stop letting the tail wag the dog.
Most agencies built their playbook on businesses much larger than yours — or in a different industry.
The strategy wasn't designed for your market, or where you are right now.
A $1M consulting firm doesn't need a brand awareness campaign. It needs its next twenty clients.
And a $10M business doesn't need more traffic. It needs to know where the existing pipeline is disappearing.
The answer?
What got you to your first million won't get you your next. So the key is knowing what levers to pull for your stage of business, and your industry.
And knowing that takes experience across different channels and industries, and impartiality.
This is common. For instance, maybe the SEO agency doesn't know what the ads agency is doing or who the high intent buyers are so your organic search attracts tyre kickers.
Or the AI content is off brand and is quietly eroding your credibility.
And the AI Agent is deploying what it can, not what it should, and the token burn is wild.
Every dollar working alone instead of compounding. Every specialist pulling in different directions.
The answer?
An impartial, seasoned CMO to identify and drive the strategy then involve all agencies for tactical deployment - together.

The Solution.
You don't have too many specialists.
You have too many heroes
and nobody directing your marketing orchestra.
The problem has a very specific fix: engage 'the right' Fractional CMO.
IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ROLE
What Is a Fractional CMO — And Why Is It Different From Everything Else You've Tried?

A Fractional CMO is the senior marketing leader who sits above the specialists, owns the commercial outcome, and is accountable to your revenue — not to impressions, clicks, or their own channel.
They're the person who looks at your SEO agency, your ads agency, your AI stack, your content — and tells you what's right, what's wrong, what's missing, and what needs to stop. In plain language. Without an agenda.
Different from a consultant: A consultant tells you what the score should be. A fractional CMO stays in the room until everyone's playing it.
Different from a fulltime CMO hire: available to a $3M business at a fraction of the cost — with the same seniority, the same accountability, and the same commercial ownership of the outcome.
Different from every agency you've hired: this person's only agenda is your revenue. Not their retainer. Not their channel. Your number.
Below — what changes structurally when you have this in place.
This isn't about replacing the specialists. It's about having someone who understands every channel, speaks every agency's language, and is accountable to one thing — your revenue — telling you the truth about all of it.
Finally. Someone in the room who works for you.
Not the strategy that worked for a nine-figure business or a B2C ecommerce brand. The specific commercial moves that make sense for a professional services or consulting business at your revenue level, with your team, your market, your constraints.
Fixes: The Stage Problem
The SEO agency, the ads team, the AI, the copywriter — all working from a shared commercial brief. A shared understanding of your buyer, your voice, your goal.
Every dollar compounding instead of competing.
Fixes: The Alignment Problem
An audit of what you're spending and what you actually need. A content approach that makes AI faster and sharper without eroding your voice. An agent strategy built around your stage — not what's impressive to build.
Fixes: The AI Problem
Not the clicks. Not the impressions. The revenue outcome. Someone senior enough to ask the agencies the questions they've been hoping nobody asks — and hold them to answers that actually mean something.
Fixes: All Three
Why I Can Tell You What Agencies Won't
Kristina Elphinstone
Fractional CMO · Former Agency Owner
34 Years On The Tools

I'm not someone who's read the marketing playbook. I'm someone who's written it — across every channel, over 34 years, from the inside.
I've run agencies. I've been on the tools myself. I know exactly what each specialist will tell you — and what they won't.
That's not something you can fake. And it's exactly why I can walk into a room with your SEO agency, your ads team, or your AI vendor and ask the questions that make them uncomfortable — because I know what the right answers look like.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The Things People Ask After Reading This
Plain answers. No brochure voice.
Yes. And they'll probably perform better once you do. The most common reason agencies underdeliver isn't incompetence — it's playing without a conductor. No clear commercial brief. No one holding them to revenue outcomes. A fractional CMO fixes that. Most agency relationships improve significantly within 90 days. The agency is usually relieved.
Strategy clarity and a commercial brief for every specialist shifts things within weeks. Structural fixes compound over 90–180 days. What changes within 30 days: a clear, confident answer to "what's actually working?" — delivered without the pause. For most CEOs and business owners, that changes the temperature of every conversation with their team, their board, and their agencies
Businesses between $1M and $20M with marketing already running but no clear line between the spend and the revenue. Below $1M — focus on product-market fit and direct sales first. Above $20M — a full-time CMO is usually right. In between — a fractional CMO is almost always the highest-leverage marketing investment available. Significantly more impactful than adding another specialist to a band that's already missing a conductor.
A consultant analyses and recommends. A fractional CMO leads and owns. The consultant gives you a new score. The fractional CMO stays in the room until the band is playing it. Most businesses that have tried consulting and not seen results aren't short on recommendations. They're short on someone senior enough to make them stick.
Take the diagnostic. Five minutes. If three or more of the seven reasons are active — and for most businesses at this stage they are — this is the answer. If fewer than three are active I'll tell you that in the conversation. I don't take on engagements where the fit isn't right. There are enough of the right ones.
Most of the businesses I work with are in professional services, consulting, IT, property, financial services, coaching, or franchises. These businesses have specific challenges — longer sales cycles, relationship-driven pipelines, expertise-based positioning — that most agency playbooks weren't built for. The strategy has to be built for your market, not adapted from someone else's.
AI is extraordinary at execution. It executes the brief it's given. If the strategy is wrong for your stage, AI runs the wrong strategy faster and more expensively. If the specialists aren't aligned, AI amplifies the misalignment. The businesses winning with AI right now have someone who governs what it's pointed at. AI doesn't replace strategic judgment. It makes good strategic judgment dramatically more powerful.
